Mental health is a key component impacting a person’s total wellbeing and their ability to flourish and thrive. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (46.6 million in 2017). Mental illnesses include many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate to severe. Many people dealing with these conditions choose not to talk with friends or coworkers about their experiences because of the stigma that exist around mental illness. Jeff Clemmons, a Georgia Power employee, speaks openly about his life-long journey with clinical depression and OCD. His desire is to remove the stigma around mental health and help make Southern Company an open, supportive workplace. Clemmons is joined by Mary Stuart Neil, a licensed professional counselor, who will help explain mental illness and how we can find help for ourselves and better support our coworkers in their own journeys for mental wellbeing.
